This Sunday we'll hear a reading from Exodus where Moses asks God for some "proof" of God. God says, "You can NOT see me, for no one who has seen me lives." If this means that absolute truth is devastating to us and we can only know truth partially because our egos would not survive total exposure, then what else might we be unequipped to comprehend, see, and experience in our earthly existence? In the song Lilac Wine a singer is looking for their "complete truth" or "God" or in this case their "Love." The only way they can even get close is through the heady Lilac Wine. Even in this altered state they can still barely even make out hazy images. The last line "I feel unready for my love..." is their conclusion.

Looking forward to this Sunday as we celebrate diversity and embrace its ability to bring us together as its "World Communion Sunday". We'll be getting the congregation involved with one of our favorite "mash-ups" out there. The words of "Amazing Grace" sung to the tune of the famous delta blues song "House of the Rising Sun". Enjoy this video of the Blind Boys of Alabama singing it live in the studio. |
